Actors That I Admire: Nathan Fillion

(Author's Note: I find it kind of funny that this has been sitting in my Google Docs queue for a few weeks, and then Entertainment Weekly announces their cover with the Geek God himself on it. Fail Anna, way to be too cautious about your writing.)

There are few actors that I truly and completely admire. Sure, I like a lot of actors and their work. But doesn't necessarily make them admirable. A lot of them do good deeds, adopt kids from poor countries, help rebuild places that have been left to ruin, openly and confidently pronounce their stands on political topics other celebs tip toe around, many of them do things like this. That's one great thing about most celebrities, and those celebrities I admire.

However, there is one celebrity who seems to go above and beyond for the fandoms that made him so popular. He consistently rallies for a failed series that he would love to resurrect (though he does this in jest). He makes references to his previous works in current series, showing that he cares for his roots. And, he is one of the geekiest actors I've ever seen.

Nathan Fillion.

People in Whedonverse know who he is. A lot of us in Whedonverse are all on board for almost anything he does. Nathan Fillion, aside from being an amazing actor, never fails to give credit where credit is due. He often thanks Joss Whedon for allowing him to stretch his acting muscles and play a bad guy (and a hella creepy one at that), and never fails to make all the fans fall for him all over again with what ever new thing he's involved in. Not only did Joss allow him to play Caleb on Buffy and Mal on Firefly, Joss showed us something that no one knew Nathan had in him.

Captain Hammer. It's no secret that I personally LOVELOVELOVE this web series. It's probably one of the most watched things on my Zune, and as much as I adore Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day in this series, Nathan Fillion truly makes the whole package complete. His delivery of the lines as the arrogant hero never fails to crack me up (I mean, really, who else could deliver that line above and not crack up?). Not only did we see Nathan flex his comedic muscles, but we got to hear him sing. That's right, Nathan Fillion has an amazing voice (even better when he sings in Commentary: the Musical), to the point that now everyone is proclaiming the need of a musical Castle episode. Where do I cast my support of that?

Nathan openly proclaims his geekiness, often flailing and fanboying over movies, video games and comics. He continues to try and get on the floor with the rest of the geeks at Comic-Con only to be mobbed by the epicness that is "Nathan Fillion".

Perhaps the thing he is the most loved for, are his constant references to the (unfortunately canceled and most likely never to return) series Firefly. So far I've counted seven references to Firefly in his current series Castle. All can be found on the blaster.com article here. Not only does he reference Firefly, but in an upcoming episode of Castle titled "One Life to Lose" the episode is a nod to his time on "One Life to Live".

Nathan Fillion understands what made him the fantastic actor he is, he appreciates all the fans and fandoms, and continues to impress us all with his complete geek. Proving that not only can he be ruggedly handsome, sing on top of a moving vehicle, and creep us out beyond belief during Buffy, but he can also be a full blow, out and proud geek to the core.
